Men's cricket England discussing whether to start taking the knee again in support of Black Lives Matter movement

ASHLEY GILES has suggested England’s cricketers could reassert their support for the Black Lives Matter movement this summer, having quickly shelved their commitment to taking a knee last year.
In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in the United States, England kicked off their 2020 season by joining the West Indies in performing the symbolic gesture ahead of all three Test matches between the sides and the subsequent women’s series.
They also did so in their one-day matches against Ireland but the practice was quietly dropped for the subsequent visits of Pakistan and Australia.
That drew sharp criticism from Michael Holding, the former West Indies paceman who captured the ear of the nation with a passionate and compelling speech on racism during a rain break last July.

Men's cricket Jofra Archer happy to rest this summer

JOFRA ARCHER is putting a lengthy career over an immediate return to action following what he described as “career-defining” elbow surgery last week.
The 26-year-old Sussex pace bowler is rehabilitating and is ready to “sit out the summer” in a bid to finally resolve a problem with his right elbow.
Jofra said: “One thing I am determined about post-elbow operation is not to rush my comeback because my primary focus is to be playing for England in the Twenty20 World Cup and Ashes later this year.
“Those are my targets. If I come back before then and manage to play in the home Test series against India — then fine, so be it. If I don’t, I am quite prepared to sit out the summer.

Men's cricket IPL postponed due to rise in Covid cases among players and staff

THE Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed with immediate effect due to the country’s coronavirus crisis, with England’s 11 participants among those now looking for safe travel out of the nation.
The competition has been carrying on against the backdrop of a public health emergency which has seen daily infections top 400,000 but, with multiple reports of franchise bubbles being breached by positive cases, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s governing council unanimously voted to suspend the action indefinitely.
England’s IPL contingent — limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, Sam Billings, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Tom and Sam Curran — have been receiving daily advice and support from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), while being reminded that any decision over their participation was an individual one.

Men's cricket Investigation into institutional racism at the ECB is formalised

CALLS for an Equality and Human Rights Commission investigation into alleged institutional racism at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have been formalised with a solicitors’ letter to the chair of the organisation.
Mohammed Patel, who is representing former umpires John Holder and Ismail Dawood in an ongoing employment tribunal claiming claiming systemic discrimination at the ECB, officially served the request to the EHRC today.
Addressing the chair, Baroness Falkner of Margravine, Patel writes: “On behalf of those that instruct me, I will respectfully submit that the England and Wales Cricket Board has to date failed to adopt the policies that they themselves set out to eradicate racism in cricket.
