Gov't to use 2M AstraZeneca vaccines for A1 to A3 priorities — Galvez – Manila Bulletin

The newly-delivered two million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the donations of Covax facility will be used for the inoculation of frontline healthcare workers (A1 priority), senior citizens (A2), and persons with co-morbidities (A3) nationwide, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. revealed Saturday.
Galvez, vaccine czar and chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, witnessed the arrival at 12.49 p.m. from the Netherlands of 2,030,400 AstraZeneca vaccines at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.
“The AstraZeneca will be used for A1 to A3 [priority sectors] nationwide. Majority will be given to areas with higher attack rate and higher active cases,” Galvez said in a post-arrival press briefing.

The government may not be able to vaccinate 70 million Filipinos if delays in the delivery of vaccines will persist, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., vaccine czar, said.

The virus surge in India affected the vaccine supply in the Philippines, forcing officials to revise its vaccination target.
The government previously aimed to inoculate 70 percent of the country’s 110 million population to achieve herd immunity. Galvez, however, said the lack of vaccines required a tweaking to achieve a “more realistic target.”
