For anyone just joining us. this started on the campus of m.i.t., with the shooting of an m.i.t. campus police officer. can you tell us how things progressd? >> reporter: that was the 11:00 hour when the information crossed from the campus newspaper that an officer had been shot and it crossed the campus web site that an officer had been shot and the scene was coshedded. we had reports that the officer -- at some point, before or after he was shot, had his weapon stolen. and the information crossed that it was a simple robbery, unrelated to the bombing. at that point, a lot of media stood down...
