Starting a feminist movement at your high school is one hell of a thing to put on a college application. In “Moxie,” directed by Amy Poehler and based on the novel by Jennifer Mathieu, a determined young woman, Vivan Carter (Hadley Robinson), spearheads a movement to expose and dismantle the patriarchal culture at her high school. No longer accepting the ubiquitous sexism at Rockport High, the girls in “Moxie,” portrayed by a talented group of young women, are a force to be reckoned with.

Vivian (Hadley Robinson) and her best friend Claudia (Lauren Tsai) are back at Rockport High in Oregon for the new term. Everything seems to be the same — the obnoxious rankings, where all the girls in school are graded according to their physical attributes, are out and the incredibly popular captain of the football team Mitchell Wilson (Patrick Schwarzenegger) is being his casually-annoying self. Everything is same that is until new girl Lucy (Alycia Pascual-Peña) asks Vivian, “You know that annoying can be more than just annoying right?”

It’s a sporting school, dominated by the entitled antics of the boys’ American football team. Their leader and quarterback Mitchell Wilson (Patrick Schwarzenegger) is, not to put too fine a point on it, a dick, who lords it over the entire school and assumes every female student is just dying to sleep with him if only he would give them the chance.
“It’s just Mitchell,” Vivian and her friends say when the conceited oaf inappropriately touches someone or makes an offensive remark; they’ve grown so used to his appalling behaviour they hardly even notice it any more.
