Media Prima overlooked as potential beneficiary of Disney+ Hotstar's entry, says CGS-CIMB

KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): Media Prima Bhd has been overlooked by the market as the potential beneficiary of Disney+ Hotstar’s entry into Malaysia, according to a local research house.
In a note today, CGS-CIMB Research said much of the local content that will be added to the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service’s library is produced by Media Prima’s Primeworks Studios.
“We suspect these programmes and movies have been fully amortised since they are mostly dated content. Thus, most of the amount that Disney pays to Media Prima for the content should theoretically trickle down to the latter’s bottom line,” said its analysts Kamarul Anwar and Mohd Shanaz Noor Azam.

UMW a potential beneficiary from ECRL re-alignment, says CIMB-CGS Research

KUALA LUMPUR (April 19): CGS-CIMB Research has maintained its "add" rating on UMW Holdings Bhd at RM3.27 with an unchanged target price (TP) of RM4.20 and said the automotive and engineering group stands to benefit from the proposed re-alignment of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Section C towards the northern route via Gombak and Serendah as it has over 700 acres of landbank assets at the Serendah High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Park.
In a note last Friday, CGS-CIMB analyst Mohd Shanaz Noor Azam said UMW Holdings has circa 732.4 acres of vacant land in Serendah HVM Park, with an estimated net book value of RM73 million or RM2.30/sq ft.

Analysts maintain 'positive' calls on DRB-Hicom on strong 4Q performance

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 25): DRB-Hicom Bhd has received positive calls from analysts after recording a strong net profit in the fourth quarter of the financial year ended Dec 31, 2020 (4QFY20), surging 20.8 times year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM986 million.
Kenanga Research, in a note on Thursday, maintained its "outperform" call on the company with a sum-of-parts (SOP)-derived target price (TP) of RM2.50.
In terms of the automotive segment, analyst Wan Mustaqim Wan Ab Aziz said the group's marques are expected to boost its sales performance by featuring new or revised models amid the current sales tax exemption period.
On Pos Malaysia Bhd's performance, he said despite the challenging environment, Pos Malaysia's ongoing transformation efforts will augment the improved tariff rates and growing demand for e-commerce.

CGS-CIMB: Astro an overlooked stock at current valuations, considering entering high-speed broadband market

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): CGS-CIMB Research opined that Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd is an overlooked stock in the media space as the counter is currently trading at a 77% discount to the global pay-TV and streaming average CY21F enterprise value to its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EV/EBITDA).
The local research house added that Astro’s CY21-22F yields of 8.3% to 8.6% backed by strong FCF generation is highest among media peers and companies under its coverage.
It projected Astro’s 2021 to 2022 dividend per share to come to 7.6 to 7.9 sen.
CGS-CIMB’s analysts Kamarul Anwar and Mohd Shanaz Noor Azam said in a report today they believe Astro's upcoming digital convergence strategy to lure "cordnevers" could be a significant transformation in its business model.
