Apr 5, 2021 7:26 AM
(WASHINGTON) Back on January 27th, the President issued an Executive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad. In response to this Executive Order, USDA is seeking input from farmers and other interested stakeholders to collect feedback on a climate-smart agriculture strategy. To collect this information, USDA has published a Federal Register notice posing a series of questions to allow farmers the opportunity to submit their comments and ideas. Illinois Farm Bureau is calling on members to utilize the ACT to submit their opinions and ideas to these questions by this coming Friday. Illinois Farm Bureau will be collecting submitted thoughts and ideas will be incorporated into an IFB public comment. Sign up for FB ACT, IFB’s grassroots advocacy program, and become an advocate for Illinois agriculture by offering your input to elected officials and regulatory agencies. IFB will call on members when it is time to act by sending text message and email alerts to you. Text FARM to 52886 or click on p2a.co/1RjZFxc.

REGIONAL WEATHER DISCUSSION

Mar 17, 2021 4:50 AM
(OLNEY/NEWTON) Two rounds of rain are expected to hit our downstate area over the next 36 hours with some heavy amounts of rainfall possible along with maybe some severe weather conditions. As the strong low pressure storm system moves up towards the Ohio River Valley, our first chance of widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms will move through this afternoon. Then after a brief dry period, the second wave of scattered rain and maybe thunderstorms will roll through tonight and tomorrow morning. Thursday will be a rather raw day with an overcast sky, lingering rain, and temperatures falling back into the low to mid 40’s. We then dry out Friday with sunshine and warmer air returning for Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned for updates and monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for more weather information and forecast details.

Mar 17, 2021 7:58 AM
(SPRINGFIELD) Congratulations to an area student who last week finished strong during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Collegiate Discussion Meet. It was over the course of three days that Taylor Hartke of Teutopolis discussed topics impacting agriculture, such as big data and international trade, plus her third and final round discussion on broadband infrastructure. Although the junior at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, majoring in agricultural communications with a minor in agribusiness economics, did not advance to the final four competitors, the Effingham County native did finish among to top sixteen.
