Mortal Kombat Director Reveals Reason Behind Movie's Most Controversial Change
The
Mortal Kombat movie is out in theaters and via HBO Max and most fans of the fighting game series have seen it. According to the critics over on Rotten Tomatoes, it's not very good. However, according to the movie's audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it's quite good. That said, while fans and critics can't agree about the movie's quality, many can agree they were
[SPOILER] surprised there was no
Mortal Kombat tournament, unlike the original movies. The tournament is mentioned, plenty actually, but not a single fight happens within it.

'Mortal Kombat' Movie Review | The Young Folks

As an exercise in pure, shameless fan service,
Mortal Kombat (2021) certainly honors not just the 90s video game series it adapts, but also its cinematic predecessors. Shot and lit like a mature TV movie that just happens to be arriving in theaters and via HBO Max this weekend,
Mortal Kombat does excel in two areas the franchise used to pull its punches in: this is one bloody, gory, fight simulation with some stupendous choreography.
The film deserves a lot of credit for acknowledging this supposedly obvious fact, that what drove kids and adults to countless hours hunting for fatalities was the game’s visceral content and devotion to ultra violence. The previous films certainly took notes from the basic story of the games, but their PG-13 ratings felt like a total misfire, an excuse to dumb down the accessibility of the film’s appeal so they could sell more tickets and toys.

Mortal Kombat movie. This request from The Miz was one that was largely met with widespread love from fans. So much so, in fact, that it looks like one of the most prominent faces attached to the
Mortal Kombat series is even in favor of the idea.
In a follow-up tweet from
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, the beloved game developer seemed to give The Miz his own blessing when it comes to playing Johnny Cage. "Guy makes a compelling case," Boon said on social media. The response from Boon was then met with a litany of replies from fans who either agreed with the casting or shared other actors that they would prefer to see in the role.

Mortal Kombat Movie: Who Is General Reiko?

Mortal Kombat Movie: Who Is General Reiko?
The
Mortal Kombat movie obviously can’t have the Earthrealm combatants fighting against themselves, so naturally, it had to assemble a team of Outworld fighters for them to square up against. That team of baddies consisted of some familiar faces that Mortal Kombat veterans and even more casual fans might’ve recognized, but there was one character, Reiko, who made an appearance in the movie as one of Outworld’s main fighters even though he hasn’t historically had a major presence in the games.

Mortal Kombat Movie Releases One-Month Promo Video
The upcoming
Mortal Kombat reboot film is set to release just one month from today in theaters and on HBO Max as of April 16th. To celebrate the occasion, a new promo for the movie has been released featuring a bunch of the known characters. While nothing truly new appears to be included, there are a couple of shots that zip by of the characters that are worth noting.
Specifically, at one point in the brief promo, there is a good look at Kabal in the background without anyone in front of him, offering a look at him for the first time truly on his own. A previous poster had shown what Kabal looked like in a key art pose, but he was partially obscured. The new promo might move constantly and never intentionally focus on him, but the look at him all by his lonesome does technically exist in there.
