Man Fined K500, 000 for Buying Farm Produce Without License

The first-grade magistrate s court in Mangochi on Monday, May 10, 2021 ordered a 39-year-old man, identified as Masautso Lazaro, to pay a fine of K500,000.00 or in default, serve a 12 months’ jail term for buying farm produce without a license.
According to the court, Lazaro’s acts contravened regulation 3(2) (b) as read with regulation 8(a) of smallholder agricultural produce (marketing) chapter 65:05 of laws of Malawi.
The court heard through state prosecutor, Police assistant superintendent Davie Banda, that on May 5, 2021 at Koche road block, along Mangochi-Monkey bay road, Lazaro was found with 300 bags of maize, each weighing 50kgs. ....

Court Orders Repatriation of 2 Rwandese
Mangochi First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered the repatriation of two Rwandese, Ufitese Celistin, 27, and Kacyatwa Sector, 35, to their country for staying in Malawi without proper papers contrary to Section 5(b) of the Immigration Act.
Mangochi Police Station Prosecution Officer, Assistant Superintendent Davie Banda, told the court that the foreign nationals who operate businesses at Makawa Trading Centre were arrested in the morning of May 5, 2021 after they failed to produce passports and other relevant documents.
Banda added that investigations also revealed that the duo entered into the country from Zambia in January 2021 without documents. ....

MAN GETS 7 YEARS IHL FOR FELONIES


Mangochi First Grade Magistrate Court on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, convicted and sentenced Christopher Raphael Orlando a Mozambican national to 7 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL)  for committing a series of crimes in the district.
During court proceedings, Mangochi Police prosecutor, Sergeant John Makawa told the Court that Orlando is a well-known motorcycle thief.
According to Makawa, on the evening of February 2, 2021, Orlando met his brother-in-law on his way to Kassim village market. The convict borrowed his brother in-law’s Lifo motorcycle valued at K550,000 which he promised to bring back before nightfall but went away with it.
Makawa added that, on April 2, 2021, the same Orlando went away with a duck Lifo motorcycle worth  K550,000 belonging to his father-in-law at Chilawi village after a two-week marriage with the victim’s daughter. ....
