Fighters with al-Qaida's East Africa affiliate al-Shabab have killed one person and capture five others from a United Nations' helicopter.
The helicopter made an emergency landing in Xindheere village an area controlled by the fighters in Galgudug region of the Galmudug state. The national broadcaster SNTV reported on Wednesday (Jan.10), the army launched a rescue operation.
Al-Shabab still controls parts of southern and central Somalia and continues to carry out attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and other areas while extorting millions of dollars a year from residents and businesses in its quest to impose an Islamic state.
