Johor state assembly sitting to go ahead despite Covid-19 positives

JOHOR BARU: The Johor state assembly sitting will still go ahead as scheduled on next Thursday (Aug 12) despite two assemblymen testing positive for Covid-19.
State Speaker Suhaizan Kayat said the two assemblymen were Johor Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee chairman Solihan Badri, who is Tenang assemblyman, and Mahkota assemblyman Muhamad Said Jonit from PKR, who had switched from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) early this year.
“With Solihan testing positive for Covid-19, all state leaders including myself recently went for a swab test after we came into close contact with him. Alhamdulilah, all of us tested negative,” he said when contacted here on Wednesday (Aug 4).

Senggarang rep feels things will work out after quitting Amanah for PKR

Senggarang assemblyman Khairuddin A. Rahim said he does not like to term crossing over as he was only migrating to a another Pakatan Harapan component party.
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Senggarang assemblyman Khairuddin A. Rahim believes there is light at the end of the tunnel for him, following his decision to quit Parti Amanah Negara and join its fellow Pakatan Harapan component party PKR.
The 62-year-old, who was previously Johor Amanah secretary, said he actually left the party in September and became a member of PKR's Batu Pahat division a month later.
“I already declared my intention to leave Amanah to party deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub back then.

Three Amanah reps leave party to join PKR

JOHOR BARU: Three Johor Parti Amanah Negara assemblymen have left the party to join PKR.
The three are Senggarang assemblyman Khairuddin A. Rahim, Mahkota assemblyman Muhamad Said Jonit and Serom assemblyman Faizul Amri Adnan.
Khairuddin confirmed that they had joined PKR since last year.
“We sent in our applications around September last year and it was approved somewhere around November.
“I left the party as I wanted to contest for a parliamentary seat but there are limited seats for Johor Amanah to contest in, ” he said, adding that he had not sent any formal request to leave Amanah as it was not required for him to do so.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, March 11 — Former Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) strongman Khairuddin A. Rahim defended his recent decision to quit the party to join PKR, describing it as a 'personal move for something better'.
The 62-year-old Senggarang assemblyman is confident that there will be opportunities for him in his role as an environmental activist as well as a politician within his new party.

JOHOR BARU: PKR will be selecting better candidates who would not betray the people’s mandate, says its vice-president Chang Lih Kang.

PORT DICKSON: Julau MP Larry Sng Wei Shein and Tebrau MP Steven Choong Shiau Yoon were pressured into supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's Perikatan Nasional government, claims Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, adding that he would reveal details in due course.
Former PKR lawmakers Sng and Choong handed over their statutory declarations (SDs) in support of Perikatan to the Prime Minister on Sunday and stated that they will be “government-friendly Independents”.
Prior to this, Sng said he decided to leave PKR as there had been too much political instability in the past year.
He said his constituency was also the poorest in the country and the people were suffering because of the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, loss of jobs, and declining income from low commodity prices.

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 1 — The recent crossover of several Amanah leaders to PKR is a clear indication of the Muslim progressive party's overall weak position within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition which spells out a possible crisis of leadership, political analysts said.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia geostrategist Prof Azmi Hassan pointed out that Amanah was given a generous seat allocation in the 14th general election by DAP and PKR.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must lead a joint commitment to reject inter-coalition defections to safeguard the future of Pakatan Harapan, said Amanah Youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin today.
Commenting on reports that three of his party’s Johor lawmakers have defected to the allied PKR, Shazni said it was time to accept that party-hopping was the “prostitution” of the country’s democracy.
