Sonko arrives at Milimani court in style for corruption case hearing

Those outside the courtroom could only admire from a distance as rhe governor and his lawyers arrived for the hearing.
He appeared in court after being discharged from Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted for the past three weeks after reportedly falling sick at Gigiri police station where he was held for questioning to establish his alleged links to terrorism activities.
Sonko, through his lawyers, had sought the court’s permission to travel to South Africa for a hip surgery.
Only recently, his defense lawyers led by John Khaminwa claimed that Sonko was not mentally fit to stand trial based on a medical report from a consultant mental psychiatrist.

Sonko finally freed on bail after dramatic court session

“Is he fainting? Is he fainting?“
The question rent in the air at Kahawa Law Courts as Magistrate Diana Mochache surged from her seat and quickly gazed at former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as he slumped in the dock.
Sonko’s lawyers pleaded with the court to allow doctors to treat him first before hearing an application to hold him for 30 days to allow for investigation of terror claims against him.
“The governor is not fit to have the application heard today, we urge you to adjourn the hearing. It would be better that the governor goes through the procedure, there is no hurry,” lawyer John Khaminwa pleaded.

Sonko faced another count of assault causing actual bodily harm. It was alleged that on May 25, 2019, at Buruburu phase four in Kamukunji jointly with others not before court unlawfully led a group of men and assaulted Alex Kioko thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

A Kiambu court has remanded former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko for two days pending his bail and bond application ruling.
Sonko appeared before Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo who directed that the matter be heard tomorrow.
He was charged that on May 25, 2019, he forcibly and violently entered the property of Landmark International situated in Buru Buru. A second charge was that on the same day, he assaulted one Alex Kioko.
