At least 16 people were killed as heavy rains pounded the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand since Sunday, triggering flash floods and landslides that buried houses and washed away bridges in several parts.
Incessant rains continued to lash various parts of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, especially Kumaon region, razing houses to the ground and leaving many trapped in the debris.
Nainital was cut off from the rest of the state with three roads leading to the picturesque lake district blocked due to a series of landslides. Roads to Kaladhungi, Haldwani and Bhawali were also blocked.
