KABUL, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Teenager Fatima Noori and her fellow pupils hug and pray as they gather in their Kabul classroom, just weeks after bombs exploded right outside the school gates, killing scores of their classmates.
The Sayed Ul-Shuhada High School in the west of the city has remained closed since the May 8 bombings, but a local NGO and the Ministry of Public Health have been holding psychotherapy classes there for girls to help with any trauma.

Afghan Schools Lack Teachers, Textbooks

Afghan Schools Lack Teachers, Textbooks
57 days after the start of the new school year (1400), the Ministry of Education is facing criticism for not solving the problem of a shortage of textbooks and teachers in schools.
Students at one of Herat’s schools say the shortage of teachers and textbooks causes many challenges.
These students complained that they are worried about their future, as the lack of textbooks and teachers in schools renders the act of getting an education meaningless.
"We cannot study without books, they are not available to us," said Mirwais, a student in Herat.
"I personally do not have textbooks. I cannot take notes, I cannot study. There are some challenges that stop us from learning," said Reja Mahmoodi, another student in Herat.

Kabul attack: Blasts near school leave more than 50 dead
Blasts close to a secondary school in the Afghan capital Kabul have left at least 50 people dead and more than 100 injured, officials say
The explosions took place as students were leaving the building on Saturday, with pictures on social media showing abandoned school bags in the street.
Most of the victims were girls, a ministry of education spokeswoman said.
No-one has admitted carrying out the attack in Dasht-e-Barchi - an area often hit by Sunni Islamist militants.

Kabul school blasts toll rises to 55 dead and 150 injured: security official

The official death toll reported by the country’s interior ministry still stands at 30.
A senior interior ministry official told Reuters on condition of anonymity that most of the casualties were students coming out of the Sayed ul Shuhada school.
Footage on TV channel ToloNews showed chaotic scenes, with books and school bags strewn across a bloodstained road, and residents rushing to help victims.
At a nearby hospital, staff wheeled in injured students while dozens of distressed relatives searched for their sons and daughters, according to a Reuters witness.
A spokesman for the interior ministry, Tariq Arian, said the death toll was at least 30 with 52 injured.

Kabul, May 11 (EFE).- Afghanistan on Tuesday observed a day of national mourning for the 85 victims, most of them young girls, of an attack on a girls’ school in Kabul on Saturday, ahead of a three-day Eid ceasefire with the Taliban.
Top government officials gathered in the presidential palace to honor the victims of the attack – in which 147 civilians were injured – in the presence of families of some of the deceased students.
The victims of a car bombing in the eastern Logar province on Apr. 30 – in which 24 people including 16 children were killed and 110 injured – were also mourned during the day.
