BENGALURU: The Common Entrance Test 2020 results announced on Friday saw a 10% rise in students qualifying for an engineering seat, from 78% last year to 88% this year.
Boys dominated the rank lists and were mostly from cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Hubballi. Rakshith M from RV PU College, Bengaluru, bagged the first rank in the engineering stream. Shubhan R of Sri Chaitanya E-techno School, Bengaluru, and M Shashank Balaji of Base PU College, Hubballi, secured second and third ranks, respectively.
The CET - the gateway exam for admission to professional courses - was held on July 30 and 31 strictly following Covid protocols even as the number of positive cases in Karnataka saw an alarming jump. At least 63 Covid-positive students wrote the test and many of them secured good ranks. Of the 1.8 lakh students who had applied, 1.5 lakh were eligible for engineering. The number of students who got centum in biology also increased from 38 to 80. Three students got full marks in chemistry. There was just one girl in the list of toppers from four streams: Sanjana.
