NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday set up a 12-member National Task Force (NTF) to facilitate public health response to Covid-19, including streamlining of oxygen distribution in the country, based on scientific and specialized domain knowledge.
A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah said: "A consensus has emerged that there is a need to ensure that the allotments of medical oxygen to the states and UTs are made on a scientific, rational and equitable basis. At the same time, it must allow for flexibility to meet unforeseen demands due to emergencies which may arise within the allocated territories."

The Supreme Court has set up a 12-member national task force of doctors and bureaucrats to primarily formulate a methodology for the scientific allocation of oxygen to mitigate the extreme shortage in many parts of the country because of the sharp rise in Covid cases.
A bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah, which had passed the order on May 6, formally uploaded the written order on Saturday night.
The members are Dr Bhabatosh Biswas, former vice-chancellor of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Calcutta; Dr Devender Singh Rana, chairperson of the board of management of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi; Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, chairperson and executive director of Narayana Healthcare, Bangalore; Dr Gagandeep Kang, professor at Christian Medical College, Vellore; Dr J.V. Peter, director of Christian Medical College, Vellore; Dr Naresh Trehan, chairperson and managing director of Medanta Hospital and Heart Institute, Gurgaon; Dr Rahul Pandit, director of critical care medicine and ICU at Fortis Hospital, Mulund (Mumbai) and Kalyan (Maharashtra); Dr Saumitra Rawat, chairman and head of department of surgical gastroenterology and liver transplant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital; Dr Shiv Kumar Sarin, senior professor and head of department of hepatology and director at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Delhi; Dr Zarir F. Udwadia, consultant chest physician at Hinduja Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital and Parsee General Hospital in Mumbai; secretary, Union ministry of health and family welfare; and the cabinet secretary. The cabinet secretary is the convenor of the task force while the health secretary is an ex-officio member.

The Supreme Court on Saturday constituted a 12-member national task force that would be tasked with formulating a methodology for the "scientific allocation of medical oxygen" to states and Union Territories (UTs) during the pandemic.
Issuing the order, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah said this taskforce would be at liberty to draw upon the human resources of the Union government for consultation and information. It would also be free to formulate its modalities and procedure for working.

New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Saturday set up a National Task Force for an effective and transparent mechanism for allocating medical oxygen in view of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the second wave of pandemic.
A Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud, constituted National Task Force (NTF) to assess and recommend the need and distribution of oxygen in the country.
"The Union Government shall continue with the present practice of making allocations of oxygen (as modified by the orders of this Court or the orders of the High Courts as the case may be) until the Task Force has submitted its recommendation in regard to the proposed modalities", the apex court said in its order.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has constituted a 12-member National Task Force of top medical experts to formulate a methodology for allocation of oxygen to states and union territories for saving lives of COVID-19 patients and to facilitate a public health response to the pandemic.
The top court named a sub-group for carrying out the audit exercise for Delhi's health infrastructure and allocation of oxygen and said that it shall consists of Randeep Guleria of AIIMS, Sandeep Budhiraja of Max Healthcare and two IAS officers not below the rank of Joint Secretary -- one each from the Centre and the Delhi government.

We expect leading experts in the country shall associate with the Task Force, as members and resource persons," the court said, according to ndtv.com.
