Mumbai: Shares of drug makers and healthcare companies were among the top performers on Wednesday boosted by the Reserve Bank of India’s move to provide an on-tap liquidity window of Rs 50,000 crore for the sector to fight Covid-19. Analysts said the announcement could push investors to raise their stakes in defensive sectors like pharma and technology as the second wave of the pandemic has reduced their appetite for cyclicals.
The Nifty Pharma index rallied 4 per cent on Wednesday as against the 1 per cent gains in the Nifty.
Sun Pharma, Lupin, Cadila Healthcare, Aurobindo and Torrent Pharma among others rallied more than 5 per cent.

OFS-IPO boom: A boon for seamless PE exits - The Hindu BusinessLine

Offer for sale, done right, becomes a window of win-win prospects — for promoters and private investors as well as institutional and common investors
Ever since SEBI tweaked the OFS rules in 2014 allowing non-promoters holding more than 10 per cent equity to offload stakes, the primary market opened the floodgates for Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) exits. PE players could now afford to stretch their holding spans, help their firms achieve significant scale and size, escape the IPO lock-ins, and fetch attractive returns through market sale, not party-specific block deals.
Given the role they play, it is only fair that PE and VC players get an efficient conduit for exit. They help emerging companies move up the value chain faster and offer tailored and timely advice on how to mitigate risks and achieve scale in optimal time. They have the talent and temperament to place calculated bets even amid looming uncertainty and disruption. Given the typically shorter time frames of intervention and control over their investments, opportune exits help them on many counts: in redeeming capital to limited partners, enhancing their market reputation, and unlocking funds for other strategic buys. A thriving primary market is thus critical to their divestment agendas.

NEW DELHI: Breaking the two-day reboound, the Nifty closed in the red for the day, forming a bearish candle on the daily chart.
Manish Hathiramani, technical analyst at Deen Dayal Investments said, “If we get past 14,950, we can project a target of 15,200-15,300. If we continue to fall and break 14,500 on a closing basis, the index could drift further to test the recent low of 14,250.”

HDFC twins and profit booking in IT stocks led the decline today even as cement and real estate stocks saw keen investor interest. In the broader market, PSU banks and select pharma names were seen buzzing around," said S Ranganathan, Head of Research at LKP Securities.

New Delhi: While private hospital chains such as Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd and Fortis Healthcare Ltd continued to witness a recovery in international arrivals in October-December, the number of such patients was significantly lower compared with pre-covid levels due to restrictions on international flights.
“Just looking at international patients, it is about 10% of total outpatient visits in normal times. I think what was significant is that patients are not able to travel because airlines are not operating at full capacity. We believe when that comes back, the OP (out-patient visits) will definitely pick up in terms of international patients," Apollo Hospitals managing director Suneeta Reddy said at an investor call on Saturday.
