Cheyenne Air Service Won't Resume Before Frontier Days

Airport Deputy Director Nathan Banton says wet weather in April and May coupled with a cement shortage has set back the runway project at the airport.
"Our goal is to be back by Labor Day weekend," said Banton. "If it were just an issue of the wet spring, we wouldn't be far off schedule. What nobody could have predicted is a national supply issue with the low-alkaline cement needed to finish the runway project safely."
Banton says United Express customers with reservations in July and August will be contacted regarding re-ticketing and rescheduling through their original booking agencies.
He says the airport is also working closely with the Wyoming Air National Guard to mitigate and minimize impacts to C-130 operations.

Cheyenne Runway Revamp to Ground Air Service for 11 Weeks
According to a news release, the $62 million project will include lighting enhancements, repairs and other improvements.
"Our runway has served us well for over 50 years. That’s longer than most," said Deputy Director Nathan Banton. "The work we’re doing will secure the airport as critical economic infrastructure beyond the middle of the 21st century."
Cheyenne Regional Air Focus Team (CRAFT) President Wendy Volk says air service will resume well before Frontier Days, and United flights booked before April 15 and after the runway reopens in July won't be affected.
As for C-130 operations, the airport says it's working closely with the Wyoming Air National Guard to mitigate and minimize impacts.

National Airport Face Mask Requirement Takes Effect Tonight

A presidential executive order requiring everyone to wear a face mask in an airport or before boarding a plane takes effect at 9:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time this evening [Feb. 1, 2021].
The order is in effect at Cheyenne Regional Airport as well as every other commercial airport in the U.S. There are exemptions for children under the age of two and people who can't wear a face mask for medical reasons under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
