ON April 13, 2021, the eve of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines (through the First Baptism in Cebu)*, we gathered in front of the monument to Antonio Pigafetta in Fort San Pedro, Cebu, sculpted by National Artist Abdulmari Imao. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines has installed a new historical marker in his honor. Why is this guy important?
