Beach Volleyball has Two Pairs named Volleyball Magazine All-Americans

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State beach volleyball’s pairing of Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz were named Volleyball Magazine First Team All-American and Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson were named Second Team All-Americans. Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz combined to go 31-7 together in 2021 and were named AVCA Second Team All-Americans earlier this month. The 31 wins in one season are the sixth most wins for a pair in a season in FSU history, it also moved them into 10th all-time for most wins in a career as a pair at Florida State. The duo went 27-3 on court two and 4-4 on court one. They were named the AVCA National Pair of the Week and the CCSA Pair of the Week on March 9 after going 5-0 that weekend with ranked wins over No. 1 LSU, No. 11 FAU and No. 19 Georgia State, all on court two. Rutz and Van Winden started off the season by winning 16 straight matches on court two, including top-10 wins over No. 8 LMU, No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 1 LSU, No. 10 TCU and No. 3 LSU. Throughout the season the pairing earned 21 ranked wins, as they also defeated No. 1 USC and No. 4 UCLA twice. Alaina Chacon and Cassie Anderson combined to go 5-2 this season as they started playing together during the last match of the regular season. Chacon and Anderson went 4-0 during the CCSA Tournament all on court two with a pair of wins over No. 4 LSU. They were named the CCSA Pair of the Tournament. Chacon and Anderson were elevated to court one for the NCAA Tournament. Chacon was named an AVCA Second Team All-American after going 25-13 on the season with an 18-12 record on court one and a 7-1 record on court two. Anderson was named to the CCSA All-Freshman Team after going 32-6 on the season with a 25-4 record on court three, a 6-0 record on court two, a 1-0 record on court four and an 0-2 record on court one. LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC beach volleyball's No. 1 pair of junior Tina Graudina (Jurmala, Latvia) and freshman Megan Kraft (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) and its No. 2 pair of graduate Julia Scoles (Mooresville, N.C./South Iredell HS) and senior Sammy Slater (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS) were named AVCA All-Americans on Wednesday, May 12.

Beach Volleyball has Four AVCA All-Americans
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State beach volleyball’s Alaina Chacon, Molly McBain, Keara Rutz and Torrey Van Winden were named AVCA Second-Team All-Americans on Wednesday.
Alaina Chacon and Molly McBain played 29 matches together during the 2021 season, finishing with a 19-10 record and as the fourth winningest pair on the Seminoles this season. Their 19 wins together gave them 32 wins as a pair of the last two years, good for the eighth-most wins as a pair in program history. Chacon and McBain earned 17 wins on court one and two wins on court two.
Together, Molly and Alaina earned 11 wins against ranked team, including wins over No. 8 LMU, No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 10 TCU and No. 1 USC on court one.

Beach Stays Unbeaten with Wins over No. 10 TCU, No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 3 LSU
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The second-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (13-0) stayed unbeaten with three wins over ranked teams, No. 10 TCU, No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 3 LSU.
“We battled today,” said head coach Brooke Niles. “There were a lot of ups and downs and we played some really tough teams but we never gave up and fought for every point. Our team showed a lot of character today and I’m so proud of them.”
