IIT Roorkee celebrates National Science Day 2021 on February 28 with various competitions. School students across Roorkee have participated in the competitions and bagged prizes.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has celebrated National Science Day 2021 on February 28. Various competitions such as quiz, debate etc., were organized online for the school students.
IIT Roorkee started organizing the competitions for National Science Day 2021 on February 19. An Inter-School Online Science Quiz Competition was held for seven local schools on February 19, 2021. The first prize in Inter School Online Science Quiz Competition was bagged by the Greenway Modern Sr. Sec. School Roorkee.

New Delhi: Every year on February 28, the nation observes National Science Day to honour Nobel Laureate and great Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman.
The day has been observed since 1987 after National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the then government to declare February 28 as National Science Day.  It was on this day (February 28) when Dr C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect. For this achievement of his, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

Every year on 28 February 2021, National Science Day is observed in India to commemorate Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman or CV Raman, the notable Physicist of India who has discovered the Raman Effect in 1928. He was honoured with Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for his achievements.
The Origin:
The NCSTC (National Council for Science and Technology Communication) in 1986 approached the Indian Government to allocated 28 February to be observed as National Science Day. Now, the day is being observed across the country especially in educational institutions, scientific, research, medical institutions. For the first time in 1987 February 28, this day was celebrated and on that day, the NCSTC has declared the institution of the National Science Popularization award for acknowledging brilliant endeavours in this field.

Every year, National Science Day is celebrated on February 28, to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir CV Raman, back in 1928. For this discovery, Sir CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. 
History of National Science Day
In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the Government of India to designate February 28 as National Science Day. The event is now celebrated all over India across schools, colleges, universities and other academic, scientific, technical, medical and research institutions. 
On the occasion of the first National Science Day (28 February 1987), the NCSTC had announced the institution of the National Science Popularization awards for recognizing outstanding efforts in the area of science and communication.
