While the West Bengal capital reported 11 cases of rape in 2021, Delhi holds the dubious record of reporting 1,226 rape cases - the highest in the country.
NCRB data: Uttar Pradesh registered the highest number of murders at 3,717, followed by Bihar (2,799) and Maharashtra (2,330). The crime rate per lakh population was 1.6, 2.3 and 1.9, while the national average stood at 2.1. Among bigger states, Jharkhand (4.1) and Haryana (3.8) had the highest crime rate.
Delhi was followed by Jaipur where 502 rape cases were registered, while in Mumbai, 364 cases of rape under IPC section 376 were reported. Along with Kolkata, at the bottom of the chart was Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu where 12 rape cases were reported and Patna where 30 rape cases were registered.
According to NCRB data, 509 victims were trafficked in 2021 of whom a majority were male and 143 females. Also, 437 victims of human trafficking in Delhi were below the age group of 18, including 100 girls.
