The five rescuers of the Bulacan provincial disaster risk reduction and management office who died on duty during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding were posthumously conferred the Bakas Parangal ng Kagitingan awards by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday.
The reported deaths due to Super Typhoon Karding rose to 11 yesterday while six other persons remained missing.
In its latest situation report on the effects of Karding, the NDRRMC said that 16,476 families or 60,817 persons were listed as affected by the Super Typhoon.
"Presently we're organizing an airlift for [relief] supplies. Right now, those are the first areas we are [focusing on.] After we attend to basics, food, water, shelter, clothes, all of these things, and then the DSWD is also prepared to provide for those who are going to need living assistance," President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said at a press briefing
The NDRRMC said that upon further validation, the previously reported death in the Cordillera Administrative Region was due to localized thunderstorms and not due to Typhoon "Henry."
