Kaizer Chiefs troubles this season has been largely pinned on underperforming players and one of their stars has admitted that the seniors are to blame.
Chiefs currently find themselves in ninth position on the DStv Premiership table and were eliminated from the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in embarrassing fashion.
They have struggled to string together more than three consecutive wins in 34 games thus far, and have come under continuous criticism from pundits and supporters alike.
Amakhosi defender Daniel Cardoso, however, has defended the impact of coach Gavin Hunt while admitting that the senior players have "failed" the team this season.

Ex-Buccaneer Motale explains where Mamelodi Sundowns are better than Orlando Pirates

The former national team defender, a Caf Champions League winner with the Sea Robbers in 1995, says he's impressed by the quality in the Bucs squad but is concerned that something is lacking upfront:
“Pirates have an amazing squad and the difference between them and Mamelodi Sundowns locally is that they score few goals, while Sundowns are lethal in front of goal and do not play beautiful football. The interchange and passing of the Pirates players are the best," Motale told the
“However, my biggest concern about them is scoring," he continued, "the decision-making in the final third of the field is letting them down.

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Lebese targetting 'best career moment' with TTM

Card image cap

A one-time Chiefs fans’ favourite, the left-footer also had a six-month loan spell at SuperSport United in the 2018/ 19 campaign but failed to score any goals in that time.
On a short-term contract until the end of the season with PSL newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Lebese certainly does have a lot to play for.
“My biggest priority right now, with this great opportunity to play in the Premiership again, is to contribute to the club’s dream of retaining their status and win the Nedbank Cup," the Mamelodi-born winger told the
“I have won a number of titles [he has three league titles, one Telkom Knockout and one MTN8 title to his name] in my career, especially at Chiefs; but surviving relegation with TTM would be the best moment in my career because it’s a big challenge to fight for survival," the 32-year-old Lebese claimed.

Mamelodi Sundowns will today match a record currently held by Kaizer Chiefs as the longest ever start to a PSL season without defeat, if they hold off Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Downs are yet to lose in the opening 18 league games and if they avoid defeat this afternoon will join Kaizer Chiefs in having the longest ever unbeaten start to a season.
Chiefs cruised to a 19-game start without losing in the 2014/15 season under then coach Stuart Baxter, on their way to being crowned champions in a season that saw them taste only three defeats from 30 games.

Blom blow for Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Stellenbosch FC clash

The other three bookings were against TTM, AmaZulu and Black Leopards.
Blom started and completed Amakhosi’s impressive 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca on Saturday and even though Hunt has other options such as Willard Katsande, Anthony Akumu Agay and Kearyn Baccus, who can play in Blom's position, the coach has had a preference for the youngster this season and rates him highly.
"Njabulo Blom was Man of the Match, fantastic you know," Hunt said after the Pirates win. "He's got energy, he's got legs, it's what we need, he's got the desire, we just have to get him better, but he'll get better."

Dylan Kerr: Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila make U-turn on former Black Leopards coach

However, Matsena has now clarified Kerr's position at the Limpopo-based club and he explained that the former Black Leopards coach is serving as an advisor to the TTM technical team.
“Yes, he is still advising the team, but remember as I alluded earlier on he is not our coach, but his role is to advise the team," Matsena told
"So, most people believe he is an employee of TTM. What he suggested earlier on he said no, he wouldn’t be part of TTM in terms of advising.
"Then the question was that is it because he got somebody promising him a full-time job or what?" he asked.

Report: Kaizer Chiefs defender Mathoho linked with overseas move

The report also quoted an unnamed source who says the only stumbling block may be the player's reluctance to leave his home country.
“It is a big offer that has been made for Mathoho and I believe Chiefs are seriously considering it. But they will have to also consult the player to find out if he is interested," the source was quoted saying.
“Mathoho is very close to his family and might not be too keen on being away from them for lengthy periods."
Kaizer Chiefs have been unable to sign players during the last two transfer windows due to a Fifa transfer ban.

Makgalwa reveals why he's been overlooked by Mamelodi Sundowns

The player does not however feel that there are any issues between himself and the technical team - he thinks his lack of game-time is down to the form other players are exhibiting and the fact that Sundowns are continuing to win games - they are on a 26-match unbeaten run.
“I don’t think so [that Mosimane’s departure has curtailed his playing opportunities]," Makgalwa told the
"Coach Manqoba and coach Rhulani were there with coach Pitso. It’s hard to change a winning team, that’s why I haven’t been playing," he added.
Makgalwa is currently with the national Under-23 team in Durban, preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Orlando Pirates' star midfield Thembinkosi Lorch has been absent from his side's last four games and coach Josef Zinnbauer has provided an update on his status.
Lorch last featured for Pirates in their 1-1 DStv Premiership stalemate with SuperSport United exactly a month ago, before he was taken off less than 30 minutes into the encounter.
The diminutive attacker has since missed out their Nedbank Cup win over Maritzburg United, league wins over Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United, as well as the recent Soweto Derby defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.
With the FIFA international break affording Zinnbauer a chance to recoup his charges, he is hoping 'Nyoso' will be available for re-selection in their next encounter away to Al-Hilal in the CAF Confederation Cup next Friday, April 2.

By Lovemore Moyo
Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele will rubber-stamp his legendary status when he walks out in the latest edition of the Soweto Derby today.
The 34-year-old stands out as the most experienced player across both the Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs camps, with his footprint standing at 28 appearances in this fixture.
This means Jele has played one more Derby than the Kaizer Chiefs pair of Itumeleng Khune and Willard Katsande, who both have 27.
Khune will not play on Sunday, while it is not a definite that Katsande will get minutes.
Jele has led Pirates in the last 11 games they have played on the domestic scene and is certain to play today, providing him with another opportunity to edge closer to the record of 31 derby games held by Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a big blow ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Ghana and Sudan after striker Kermit Erasmus was ruled out of action for six weeks.
Erasmus picked up an ankle injury in Sundowns' DStv Premiership clash against Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town recently.
The former SuperSport United striker could also miss the big match for The Brazilians against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup tournament next month.
Sundowns doctor Carl Tabane has confirmed that striker Erasmus will be out of action for at least four to six weeks.

Kaizer Chiefs suffer blow as Manyama suspended for Soweto derby vs Orlando Pirates

Manyama has managed three goals and two assists in the 15 league games so far this season.
His three goals make him the joint top-scorer for Chiefs in the PSL together with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Leonardo Castro and Manyama’s absence could be felt by a side trying to arrest a six-match winless streak in the league, where they last won in January.
As Chiefs face a Pirates side which has defeated them three times this season, that leaves coach Gavin Hunt praying for the return of injured striker Leonardo Castro, who has missed their last three matches in all competitions.

Kaizer Chiefs need a Soweto derby win more than Orlando Pirates

Next season
And so while Chiefs have in recent years not been too hasty in firing coaches (Giovanni Solinas was one exception), and they would most likely prefer to keep the four-time title-winning coach on for next season, the situation could at some point reach a tipping point if Hunt loses the dressing room and the faith of his players.
Another poor display and a derby defeat could bring that tipping point forward and could potentially set the Glamour Boys up for an even more miserable final couple of months of the 2020/ 21 campaign.
On the other hand, a derby win could go a long way towards restoring morale. Certainly, Hunt needs victory more than his counterpart Josef Zinnbauer, who has his team on a 10-match unbeaten streak at the moment.

Junior Khanye has revealed the Orlando Pirates player he believes has all the attributes to become the next PSL star from Daveyton.
eVutha as Daveyton is affectionately known has produced a number of great players in the PSL including Khanye, Jabu Mahlangu, Skapie Malatsi, Doctor Mampuru and Michael Nkambule.
Pirates attacking midfielder Kabelo Dlamini has also joined the ranks of players from Daveyton to play for one of the biggest clubs in South Africa and has impressed the former Kaizer Chiefs star.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder was the star of the show when he came off the bench and inspired Pirates to a 3-1 victory over Martirzburg United in the Nedbank Cup a few matches ago.
