Managing the mess: Major General Badi's hits and misses a year on

April 21st 2021 at 07:30:00 GMT +0300
The mission to reclaim the capital city’s lost glory has had its fair share of hits and misses with General Mohammed Badi, the man in charge of Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS), facing resistance from almost all quarters.
If not being arm twisted by the executive and assembly at City Hall, some of Badi’s own staff are sabotaging him as evidenced with the unexpected purge at NMS where some senior officials were kicked out for abeting graft.
Cartels must be popping champagne bottles in celebration of the turn of events in their favour. Cartels literally run the capital.

Open ballot policy to be used to allocate spaces in 5 new city markets

The government has announced that the open ballot policy will be used to allocate to traders market spaces in the five newly-constructed markets in Nairobi County.
The new markets are Mwariro, Westlands, Gikomba, Karandini and New Wakulima which have been constructed at a cost of Sh2.2 billion.
President Uhuru Kenyatta last week said the traders who had previously occupied the markets will be given first priority once he commissions the markets.
Thereafter, the remaining slots will be distributed through an open ballot, which will be supervised by government officials.
Further, the president warned city politicians against inciting the public to illegally occupy the five new markets.

Sonko hits back after Uhuru confesses to orchestrating his impeachment

Stung by the criticism, the former City Hall boss told off the president for focusing on the failures of his administration rather than his own.
The former Makadara MP challenged Mr Kenyatta to instead own up to Kenyans that he had allegedly been incompetent and incapable of running a country from the first day, accusing him of only succeeding in holding independent institutions at ransom while harassing and tormenting leaders who differ with him.
In a scathing attack on the Head of State, Mr Sonko criticised President Kenyatta’s administration for having nothing to show apart from unprecedented unemployment, poverty and hopelessness in millions of Kenyans despite borrowing over Sh8 trillion shillings in the last eight years.

"What you told Kikuyus on Kameme FM is pure lies, you supported corrupt Anne Waiguru"- Mike Sonko mocks Uhuru

MY BRIEF STATEMENT ON UTTERANCES MADE BY PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA THIS MORNING ON VERNACULAR RADIO STATIONS.
My attention has been drawn to utterances made by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier today while speaking in his native Kikuyu language on various vernacular stations, alleging that he is the one who made me the Governor of Nairobi, and confessing that he is the one who initiated my removal from office to what he termed as “my leadership style that nearly grounded services in the City.”

Now Uhuru owns up on Sonko ouster as ODM demands slot

The leadership saga in Nairobi County took a new twist yesterday after acting governor Benson Mutura stepped down.
This paved the way for the embattled deputy governor, Anne Kananu, to ascend to the throne on a day President Uhuru Kenyatta narrated how he instigated the ouster of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, offering an insight into how powerful individuals were behind Kananu's swift ascension to take over running of the city.
But even before the ink with which Mutura had used to draft his statement had dried, yet another hurdle was placed on Kananu's path after the Law Society of Kenya obtained orders barring her from being sworn in as a substantive governor.
