To check the spread of Covid-19 in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday issued guidelines for Christmas celebration, asking citizens to ring in the festival in a subdued manner.
Municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar issued specific directives for celebration of Christmas in the city. “Maximum of 50 citizens are allowed to attend the prayers in church during Christmas. It should be ensured that there is no crowding in the church and social distancing norm is followed properly,” the list of guidelines said.
The advisory added that churches should be disinfected frequently and attention to be given to the use of face masks and hand sanitizers by citizens on the premises. “Appropriate measures should be taken while handling things on decoration depicting the life of Jesus Christ and the Christmas Tree. There should be social distancing and cleanliness at the location,” it said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against the Principal of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in connection with a case registered by the agency against five faculty members in 2018 under charges of malpractices, including submitting false certificates and documents for selection and appointment at the tri-services academy.
The CBI had on May 8, 2018, booked five senior academic faculty members of the NDA, including the Principal Om Prakash Shukla, on the charges of cheating, forgery and criminal misconduct, among others. A month after the offence was registered, the CBI had conducted searches on the premises of the NDA and houses of the accused faculty members. The FIR in the case had also mentioned the suspected involvement of unidentified officials from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which facilitates the recruitment of the faculty members, and those from the Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), in conspiracy to recruit these persons based on false documents and exaggerated claims of the experience.

Thousands of fish found dead in Kolhapur river, angry villagers tie up pollution board official

Thousands of fish found dead in Panchganga river.
After thousands of fish were found dead in Panchganga river near Terwad village in Kolhapur district, angry villagers on Wednesday tied up a senior official of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), claiming nothing had been done in the matter despite repeated complaints by them. The official was released only after the MPCB promised action against officials of the Ichalkaranji civic body.
MPCB regional officer Sachin Harbad, who visited the village on Wednesday to inspect the riverbed where the fish were found, was accosted by the villagers, led by members of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, and tied up to a stone structure. He was released an hour later, only after MPCB officials promised, in writing, to probe the incident and take action against the guilty, including civic officials.
