From the end of 2020, incidents in the San Francisco Bay Area in which Asians have suffered personal and property security threats have been escalating. In result, the residential Asian community is taking actions for protection against Anti-Asian hate.

From the beginning, gangsters robbed shops and passersby in Chinatown. At the end of January, an African American youth suddenly began to push over innocent Asians in San Francisco and Oakland.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- After receiving dozens of stories of attacks on the Asian American community ABC7 News anchor Dion Lim began noticing a trend: very few are actually reported to the police.
In recent days, Dion received videos showing a woman getting dragged through an Oakland street in a strong-armed robbery as she clung to her purse. Less than five minutes away, another woman was attacked for her bag and her car was stolen.
In San Francisco, a man was knocked to the ground in Japantown for his cellphone. He Google translated what happened on his wife's device, indicating he had been approached by a man showing him a book. In reality, the man had used the book as a distraction.

Austin's Code2College trains those often left out of the tech sector

When I first interviewed Matt Stephenson in 2017, he posed a novel strategy for solving a puzzle that was on everybody’s minds: How to recruit more African American, Hispanic and low-income students, especially girls, into the world of digital technology, and beyond that, into the spheres of science, math and engineering.
Stephenson had recently founded Code2College, an Austin nonprofit that trains young people in low-income schools to enter STEM fields by learning computer coding — as well as the larger contours of the high tech world — from volunteer experts already in the business.
Code2College started with 30 Austin students from Akins High School and the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Of those working after school with volunteer coaches, 70 percent were girls, 80 percent African American or Hispanic.
