Pour one out for the sanctity of marriage because people just don’t get hitched like they used to.
When our grandparents were growing up, you’d marry your junior high school sweetheart at 17 and literally never look at another woman for decades before dying hand-in-hand together at the ripe age of 98. And now? Well, maybe you know someone that knows someone still soaking up that everlasting love, but not in Hollywood, baby!

Movie Review - Vanquish (2021)

Directed by George Gallo.
Starring Morgan Freeman, Ruby Rose, Patrick Muldoon, Julie Lott, Ekaterina Baker, Nick Vallelonga, Joel Michaely, Miles Doleac, Chris Mullinax, Ele Bardha, Paul Sampson, Dylan Flashner, Bill Luckett, Juju Journey Brener, Reginald Robinson, Yvan Gauthier, Nate Adams, and Gregory Tremain Merrell.
SYNOPSIS:
A mother, Victoria, is trying to put her dark past as a Russian drug courier behind her, but retired cop Damon forces Victoria to do his bidding by holding her daughter hostage.
It’s no secret that beloved stars such as Nicolas Cage, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and even Guy Pearce as of late have fallen on hard times and will pretty much accept any role for a paycheck, typically putting in minimal effort. I never would have guessed Morgan Freeman would not only follow suit (maybe he already has and this is all news to me) here with

Kick-Ass kicked superhero butt before the genre surpassed the violent parody

Welcome to This Week in Genre History, where Tim Grierson and Will Leitch, the hosts of the
Grierson & Leitch podcast, take turns looking back at the world's greatest, craziest, most infamous genre movies on the week that they were first released.
You and I can't be superheroes for a very good reason: We don't have powers. By and large, the costumed do-gooders we see in movies have extraordinary strength or can fly or can run really fast or breathe underwater. Unless you're Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne and have a ton of money, it's probably best that we mere mortals leave the crime-fighting to somebody else.

I plan to make an updated list each month. But we’ll see about that. This list is a combination of scores from Rotten Tomatoes (critic and audience), IMDb, and Google. So it’s hopefully objective. Anyhow, as best as I could calculate, these are the best of the best 2021 has to offer thus far. Maybe this will help you keep track of the horror movies you should be watching this year. We’ll just take it month by month.

A couple can live a very nice life on Isla Mujeres for around $36,000 a year, or $2,500-$3,000 a month, including rent.

Columbus knew he was on to something good when he spotted a beautiful, coral-rimmed island in 1492. "This is the fairest land under heaven," the explorer is reported to have said.
Though Columbus made many mistakes on his first voyage to the New World, he was right about the island, now known as Hispaniola, the eastern part of which is the Dominican Republic (link). (The western side is Haiti.) The Dominican Republic has great weather and world-class beaches, not to mention a low cost of living and a stable government--plus it's just 3 1/2 hours from New York, which means you can leave the city in the morning and be on the beach for lunch.

Why does it feel like horror movies are always undervalued? One thing’s for certain: In this age of geekery reigning supreme, critics and academics no longer dismiss the genre as disreputable with the kneejerk regularity some once did. But even now there’s talk of “elevated horror,” of artier explorations of dread and terror — Ari Aster’s “Hereditary” and Luca Guadagnino’s “Suspiria” being two very recent examples — that are clearly distinguished from, well, non-elevated horror. The idea being that they engage your brain more than just showing brains being splattered against the wall.

[EDITORIAL] A Chance To Rewrite History

It says a lot about the last couple of years at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum that, when you start to compile a list of all the upheaval there over the past 24 months, the pandemic barely cracks the top five.
The tumult at this vitally important Springfield institution has been years in the making. It goes back even further than the abrupt 2019 firing of executive director Alan Lowe after it was learned that he had taken the museum’s rare original copy of the Gettysburg Address and used it as a party favor for a fundraiser put on by a group connected to talk show host Glenn Beck.

John Oliver Asks How Worried We Should Be About the 'Undeniably Big' National Debt

HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” dedicated the bulk of Sunday night’s episode to an in-depth look at the $28 trillion national debt, which Oliver called “an absolute f--- ton of money.”
"The truth is, our national debt is undeniably big, and between the trillions in coronavirus stimulus bills and the infrastructure plans [President Joe] Biden unveiled just this week, it's poised to get even bigger, and Republicans in particular seem outraged by that," Oliver said.
The host then explained the difference between deficits and debt and ran through some 40-plus years of tax and debt politics, all with the stated objective of trying to clarify how the national debt works, "how valid concerns about it are, and how we should think about it moving forward." Oliver slammed debt fearmongering and explained how mainstream economic thinking has shifted in recent years given the persistence of low interest rates in the face of ever-growing debt.

In March 2020, in the early days of the first lockdown, word began to spread about a documentary so outrageous, so packed with astonishing twists and turns, that it almost defied belief. Just a month later, 64 million households around the world had gawped at Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, Madness, a seven-episode Netflix series that more than delivered on its title. It told the wild story of Joe Exotic, the gay, polyamorous proprietor of a big cat wildlife park, GW Zoo in Oklahoma, and his extraordinary rivalry with Carole Baskin, an animal rights activist and proprietor of her own big cat sanctuary, which ultimately led to his downfall and eventual imprisonment for animal abuse and hiring someone to kill Baskin.
