Tata Steel shares jumped 1.61 per cent, after Moody's raised the company's long-term rating from Ba1 to Baa3, and revised its outlook to 'Stable' from 'Positive'.

“Unlike the large and midcaps, a particular sector growth is not going to drive a large number of microcaps because a lot of them are completely different from each other. The second thing is the liquidity issue. Even when you are including companies, they will have to take a very small exposure, which by its very nature, automatically raises the number of holdings in the portfolio.”

Analysts said upsides in the stock benchmarks were capped as investors and traders were, at the time, awaiting US consumer inflation data after trading hours in Mumbai on Wednesday.
