Maharashtra: Time right for easing curbs, but keep eye on Covid, says doctors | Mumbai News

Vaccine supply hasn’t improved much in July, said deputy CM Ajit Pawar
MUMBAI/PUNE: Heath minister Rajesh Tope, speaking to a TV channel in Mumbai, said there are increasing demands for allowing the fully vaccinated on local trains and the government is considering it.
“There should be some relaxation and I hope that the CM and the Covid task force will take a proper decision,” the minister said, pointing out there are issues like whether the railways have adequate manpower to cross-check whether passengers are vaccinated. He pointed out that air travellers to the state with both doses of vaccine are now exempted from presenting a negative RT-PCR report.

Even as Covid vaccine demand rises, firms may take some weeks to up production | India News

With a number of states complaining of vaccine shortage and temporarily shutting centres – at a time when the need is to increase the daily rate of jabs – the focus has intensified on the production and supply end of the chain.
Indications are that India’s vaccine production is expected to be limited for a few more weeks though a step-up is expected as Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech ramp up capacity, some of which is expected to be ready by next month, prompting the government to prioritise vaccinating segments that are seen to be more vulnerable.
Serum Institute, with a monthly capacity to produce 60-70 million doses, will increase production to nearly 100 million next month, which was its original target for January-February 2021. While it has supplied about 100 million doses so far for domestic use, this could cumulatively rise to about 470 million by August, depending on orders from the government.

90,000 health workers from Maharashtra already listed to get vaccine | Mumbai News

Representative image
MUMBAI/PUNE: Details of over 90,000 healthcare workers and 16,245 vaccinators from Maharashtra have been uploaded on Co-win-the Central software to track vaccine movement-till December 8, it was revealed at the first meeting of the state Covid-19 vaccine steering committee held on Wednesday.
An estimated 2.6 lakh health workers from the government sector will be immunised, while numbers from private health sector are still being collated. Health workers cannot get a vaccine unless they are registered, the state said.
As per preliminary plans, the state has decided to administer the vaccine only in hospitals, unlike the routine immunisation programme where even schools and anganwadis are used. It is apparently to tackle any serious adverse event on the spot. "Medical facilities above rural hospitals such as sub-district, district, corporation hospitals and medical colleges could be the main centres," an official said.
