Patna, Feb 9 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to expand his Cabinet on Tuesday afternoon as 17 new inductees are likely to take oath -- nine from the BJP and eight from Janata Dal-United.
It will be the first Cabinet expansion after Nitish became the Chief Minister for another term in November 2020.
Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan will administer the oath to the new Ministers at 12.30 pm here.
Allies BJP and JD-U were earlier stuck on Cabinet expansion for a long time, but finally came to an agreement on Monday evening. BJP sources said that the party wanted to give opportunity to the youth whereas the JD-U was likely to give preference to both experienced and young persons.

Bihar cabinet expansion: BJP, JDU set caste equations right

Bihar cabinet expansion: BJP, JDU set caste equations right

Patna, Feb 9 : Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal United (JDU) have set the caste equations right in Bihar, as Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet on Tuesday after he became the Chief Minister again in November last year. Seventeen legislators were sworn in as Ministers by Governor Fagu Chauhan.
The 17 ministers include 10 from the BJP, six from the JDU and one Independent candidate who has given support to the JDU.
Both the BJP and the JDU have tried to appease the minorities by inducting Syed Shahnawaz Hussain and Jaman Khan into the cabinet, even as the BJP banked on “Kayastha” votes by including Nitin Naveen as one of the Ministers.

Bihar Cabinet Expansion Tomorrow, Nine Berths For BJP, Eight For JDU

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar on November 16, 2020 (File)
Patna:
The much-awaited expansion of the Bihar cabinet - 80 days after Nitish Kumar was sworn-in as Chief Minister for a fifth time - will take place at noon Tuesday, with the BJP expected to get nine berths to the eight set aside for Mr Kumar's JDU.
The difference, slight though it may be, is a reminder of reversed power equations in the ruling alliance after last year's Assembly election, in which the BJP won 74 seats to the JDU's 43.
Earlier on Monday Nitish Kumar told reporters: "Whenever I will get the list from the BJP (we) will expand the cabinet...", in remarks that seemed to reinforce that shift in power.

Patna, Jan 14 : While the police in Patna are facing criticism over the sensational murder of an Indigo state head, a section of people in Bihar are apprehensive that they might be entering into a phase of 'Jungle Raj 2.0'.
Indigo airlines station manager, Rupesh Kumar Singh (40), was allegedly shot dead by criminals near the Shastri Nagar police station area in Patna on Tuesday.
The murder of the Indigo state head brings back the fearful memories of Airtel GM's murder at Bahadurpur Gumti in Patna in 2005, the kidnapping of Bharat Singh and a series of criminal acts which took place during the Lalu Prasad-Rabri Devi regime between 1990 and 2005. The high crime rate during that period even led to the downfall of the RJD in 2005.
