A2 City Administrator Talks Budget & Plans For City Hall & City Workers Moving Out Of The Pandemic

Listen to the full interview.
City of Ann Arbor officials are currently putting together their next proposed budget and say they will be "indirectly affected" by the cancellation of this year's Ann Arbor Art Fair that typically brings in 15 million "new dollars" to the city. Ann Arbor city administrator Tom Crawford says the budget will be on the agenda at next Monday's city council meeting. Crawford said while pleased the city recently learned it will receive $24 million in federal stimulus money due to the pandemic, they have not yet decided how it will be spent.
Crawford also said now that the metrics have changed, and Michigan employers can now allow workers back into offices and workplaces beginning May 24th. They are determining what that will look like in Ann Arbor City Hall. He said there is some thought of bringing workers back in June and reopening City Hall in July, but he adds nothing has been finalized yet.

Wash Co Comm & Nurse Katie Scott Shares Pandemic Perspective, Addresses A2 Council Member Comments

Listen to the full interview.
As a Washtenaw County commissioner and Michigan Medicine ICU nurse, Katie Scott had already been speaking out about pandemic protocols as the number of COVID cases in the state have been rising.
She has also publicly and personally addressed recent comments by an Ann Arbor city council member containing a homophobic slur.
As a self-described “out elected official,” Katie Scott said she felt a need to write a letter addressing a comment posted on social media by council member Jeff Hayner.  The comment was a quote from a book but maligned journalists using a homophobic slur.  Hayner has since apologized, and the Washtenaw County commissioner said she was happy to see that, adding, however, she would like to see him "do some work to show that there is action behind his words."
