LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's Giant Omelette Celebration is returning this fall after taking a year off because of the coronavirus pandemic.
KATC-TV reports that the event, which features a giant omelette cooked by multiple chefs in front of crowds in Abbeville, will be held Nov. 6 and 7. Organizers announced the festival's return by saying: "We are soooo Egggcited!!”
The Vermilion Parish festival — which celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2019, the last time it was held — draws people from around the country.
Organizers say the tradition traces back to the 19th century in the small town of Bessières in southern France.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A 48-year-old Louisiana man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for distributing child pornography, federal prosecutors said.
A news release said U.S. District Judge Michael Juneau also ordered Anthony Sal Melancon Jr. of St. Martinville on Wednesday to serve 15 years of supervised release.
He was investigated after a man whose wife was having an affair with Melancon found messages from Melancon on his wife’s laptop and reported them to authorities, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Louisiana's Western District.
According to prosecutors, evidence at Wednesday’s hearing showed that Melancon had asked the woman if she would have sex with him and a minor girl and on Jan. 21, 2017, sent her a pornographic photo of a prepubescent girl “that he claimed he had performed sexual acts upon.”
