Encrypted messaging service Telegram is proving a valuable asset to both sides in Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Security researchers on Tuesday said they have detected a bug in WhatsApp that led to group chat crash the moment a destructive message was introduced by the hackers in the chat, leading the entire group chat history being deleted forever. The bug was uncovered by cyber experts at security firm Check Point, who said one text can crash multiple phones in one go.

CPR detected 11 hacked wallets containing amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, but the scammers were able to extract some of the cash before they were discovered.

Scammers have been used Google Ads to direct crypto users to fake wallets where they siphon off their credentials — and then their money. A new report suggests attackers have cheated users out of half a million dollars in crypto this way in just the past few days.

Cryptocurrency is fascinating to look at from the outside, but it’s a bit like the wild west in some ways. Scammers know this, and they’re targeting unsuspecting crypto owners with malicious Google ads that direct them to fake crypto wallets.
