Ombudswoman's report on human rights in Slovakia 2020

In 729 cases, there was no breach.
973 motions did not fall under her competencies.
Another 563 motions were moved to 2021.
The parliament held the vote on May 7, 2021, just three days after they gave the green light to the cabinet of Eduard Heger and its programme statement, which among other things reads that the government will bring a “more effective and higher quality system of support and protection of human rights in Slovakia, including independent mechanisms and NGOs."
“It is evident that measures against the spread of the coronavirus interfered with human rights, but in some cases, they were beyond necessary and proportional," Patakyová said.

Representatives of Czech organizations working to promote human rights, people facing adversity and the Romani minority have called on Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) and members of the lower house to distance themselves from the remarks of the Czech Public Defender of Rights (the ombudsman), Stanislav Křeček, about Romani people. In their view, the ombudsman is denigrating the office by stirring up hatred and strengthening anti-Romani biases in society.

Stanislav Křeček, the Public Defender of Rights (ombudsman) in the Czech Republic, published the full wording of his comments on the Czech Government's draft Roma Strategy for 2021-2030 last week after nonprofit organizations criticized a press release issued by his office about the Strategy. Unlike his official press release, his full comments once again make light of discrimination against Romani people, above all in the housing sector, and criticize the Strategy's claim that there is a lack of data available.
