MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – It’s been a week filled with heavy hearts in the Myrtle Beach area, after losing a veteran Horry County police officer and a former mayor.
The city of Myrtle Beach has received permission to lower flags at half-staff beginning Wednesday for LCpl. Melton Gore.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Condolences are pouring in after a veteran Horry County police officer lost his life in the line of duty.
LCpl. Melton “Fox” Gore, 57, was killed Tuesday night while he was performing a task outside of his truck near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 31. The chief of police said that the preliminary investigation shows that Gore was trying to get some debris out of the road when he was hit.

Police are investigating a robbery at a liquor store in Newington. Police said a man robbed Modern Wine and Spirits, at 18 Cedar St., around 8:11 p.m. on Jan. 9 and caused minor injuries to employees who tried to stop him.
