The Northern Cape provincial government allocated R500 million to the Sol Plaatje Municipality in aid of filling the incapacitating service delivery gaps.
According to the Executive Mayor, Patrick Mabilo - also known as the ghost - they are quite relieved that the provincial government has availed resources to them to rebuild the city. He says that they have developed a year-long master plan that entails attending to the damaged roads, faulty sewerage systems, skyrocketing electricity bills, as well as inconsistent water supply. He adds that a highly specialised committee has been tasked to oversee the spending of funds.

Two more to appear in court for Upington cash-in-transit heist

───   12:02 Mon, 12 Apr 2021
Two more suspects are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the cash-in-transit heist that took place in Upington last Tuesday.
The robbery took place at the Kalahari Mall where five men allegedly robbed two security guards when they were loading money into an ATM.
Police say about R4,5 million was taken during the incident.
The Hawks arrested the second suspect on Friday and a joint operation by the agency and crime intelligence led to the arrest of a third suspect on Saturday in the Free State.
An undisclosed amount of money was also recovered. The Hawks say investigations are ongoing and further arrests are imminent.
