“Coming 2 America,” an Amazon Prime exclusive and the recently released sequel to the legendary 1988 Eddie Murphy film, “Coming to America,” is unfortunately a 33-year let-down. The original director, John Landis, doesn’t make a return; instead, Murphy reunites with “Dolemite” director, Craig Brewer. Coming into this film expecting a level of improvement over the original or at least something just as good will unfortunately leave many disappointed. Although there are some redeeming moments, the film is a fairly steep regression in quality that lacks a lot of what made the 1988 classic an experience worth watching.

If you look on IMDb, there are dozens of titles containing the phrase “dragon slayer.” Movie dragons, by and large have been of the Smaug variety, a beast “The Hobbit” author J.R.R. Tolkien described as “a most specially greedy, strong and wicked worm.”
There are exceptions of course, like the “How to Train Your Dragon” creatures and the wyvern in “The Reluctant Dragon” who would rather recite poetry than cause havoc. “You’ve got to be mad to breathe fire,” he says, “but I’m not mad at anybody.”
This week we can add Sisu the self-deprecating water dragon voiced by Awkwafina in Disney+’s animated “Raya and the Last Dragon,” to the happy dragon list

During the summer of 1988, in the seemed-like-it-could-have-been-real fictional land of Zamunda, Africa, a charming prince named Akeem Joffer took his 21st spin around the sun and began to ponder the world outside of his royal confines. Those feelings intensified when he met his queen-to-be, who just wasn’t the right fit. Unlike his parents, he wasn’t down for an arranged marriage, no matter how beautiful the bride or lavish the ceremony. (Trust, that wedding would have been everything, but fate had other plans.)
