A police officer serving in Zone 2, at the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office in Ondo State has been caught on tape threatening a businessman and demanding N10 million as being to absolve him of any blame in a case of stolen goods allegedly supplied to him in Sagamu, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. The police officer whose name was identified as ‘Ojo Eleweran’ by Truecaller, a smartphone application that has features of caller-identification, among others, did not reveal his name to SaharaReporters.
A civic group, the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to probe alleged extortion in Ondo state command. This is contained in a press statement released by Okechukwu Nwanguma, RULAAC executive director on Sunday, alleging that Mr. Ikechukwu Onu, a 49-year-old shop owner in Sagamu, Ogun State was extorted by Nigerian police officers after he was illegally detaining three years ago.
The 23-year-old victim added that the bandits kidnapped her on the farm and beat her with cassava stems.
The Ondo State Command of the South-West Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 20 men for kidnapping in the state.
