when you get through there, you have to take a deep breath, chris. so, this is these comments from a sitting u.s. senator have harmed our state and it s just you know, we have to get beyond this now. it s 2018. we re now going into the third decade of our 21st century. it s time-out for these type of comments, throw back comments, chris. what do you make of trump, president of the united states, single out african-american journalists, some of the top ones, april ryan whom i ve known forever, fabulous journalist, maxine waters out in california who has been a veteran u.s. congress person. and always going to the stupid thing. always low i.q. this or you re stupid. he does seem to i don t know what his soul is all about, but he does seem to have this instinct for what he thinks is the jugular which is i.q., that s what he does, and that s the president. well, i ve heard those comments as well, but i really have to tell you, we re just keeping our head down, running
this. thank you both. you re great. let s turn now to the mississippi runoff race where republican senator cindy hyde-smith, double brow name, is facing criticism for joking about attending a public hanging. well, hyde-smith faces mike espy who is african-american in a run up to determine who will serve the remaining two years of tad cochran s term. november 2nd, hyde-smith cannot heard praising a local rancher standing beside her. let s listen to what she said. well, that was a hoot. after the video was posted, senator hyde-smith issued the following statement. quote, i used an exaggerated expression of regard, and any attempt to turn this into a negative connotation is i ridiculous. according to the naacp in mississippi alone, more than 500 blacks were lynched from the 1800s to 1955.
that are easy to understand, and that will generate the type of dynamic economic growth that we need to see in the country. isn t your beef, though, with the overall breaks in the tax code for sports leagues in general? why single out african-american players who are protesting racial injustice? well, this doesn t single out anyone. this legislation that i ve taken over from congressman chaffetz would apply equally to all professional sports leagues, but certainly when you see a sports league like the nfl embrace what i perceive to be very unpatriotic activity, it leads to the question, why would we give folks that are engaged in this anti-americanism some special break? it makes no sense. we sometimes use the tax code to try to achieve some social objective. frankly, that s not been something we have been successful at as a country. but why would we give them a special break? so that s why i propose eliminating the break for everyone. i m curious, quickly, with these protests we
they re having a hard time appealing to women, and they re having obviously a hard time appealing to african-americans. policy matters too. i would say that at least rand paul tried. yes. it took some courage for him to appear in front of what was sure to be a tough audience. i give rand paul a lot of credit for going to howard. i don t give him credit for literally saying i don t know what you know. i mean, this felt like a conversation you should have had in a small group to at least start to know what people know and what they don t know so it came off as just so literally painful to watch, but you do give him credit, and you have to give him credit because he is doing something that the rest of his party is not doing, which is speaking directly to african-americans, seeking out african-american audiences, and at least starting a dialogue. hopefully he heard some of the information that was coming back to him. again, it s really not about a dialogue. it s not about who you a
