Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Maumere Search and Rescue Agency extended its efforts to locate two residents of Adonara Island, East Flores District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, since they went missing after being swept away by the recent flash floods.
The SAR operation was conducted from Wednesday to Friday this week, the agency's head, I Putu Sudayana, informed ANTARA during a telephonic interview from Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara Province, on Thursday.

In total, 163 people died, while 45 others remain missing in East Nusa Tenggara Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI), Gomar Gultom, on Thursday visited an East Nusa Tenggara village which witnessed landslides and flash floods in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Seroja.
 
During his visit to Tunbaun hamlet of Nefo village, Amarasi Barat sub-district, Kupang district to observe the impact of the landslides and flash floods that hit the village on April 4 and 5, 2021, Gultom distributed relief aid packages to affected villagers, according to a press statement issued by PGI.

Rescuers were searching for dozens of people still missing on Tuesday after floods and landslides swept away villages in Indonesia and East Timor, killing at least 86 people and leaving thousands more homeless.
Torrential rains from Tropical Cyclone Seroja turned small communities into wastelands of mud, uprooted trees and sent around 10,000 people fleeing to shelters across the neighbouring Southeast Asian nations.
Indonesia's disaster management agency said it had recorded 86 deaths in a cluster of remote islands near East Timor, where another 34 have been officially listed as dead since the disaster struck on Sunday.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 62 residents of Flores Timur District in East Nusa Tenggara Province lost their lives in flash floods, triggered by heavy rains, that lashed the areas of nine villages on Sunday.
Some 56 of the 62 flood victims were the residents of Nelelalamadike Village in Ileboleng Sub-district, Deputy Head of Flores Timur District Agus Payong Boli stated.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Head Doni Monardo, on Monday, embarked on a visit to East Flores District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, which bore the brunt of flooding and landslide on early Sunday.
Monardo was scheduled to leave for East Flores on Sunday evening, but the departure was hindered by extreme weather in NTT, the agency's expert staff, Egy Massadiah, stated here on Monday
"Owing to the weather last night at the destination location, (his departure) was not possible. Hence, it was postponed until this morning at 5 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Standard Time)," he remarked.

Rescue efforts hampered as flash floods and landslides in Indonesia kill dozens


Multiple disasters caused by torrential rains in eastern Indonesia have killed at least 133 people and displaced thousands, the country’s disaster relief agency has said.
Mud tumbled down from surrounding hills onto dozens of homes in Lamenele village shortly after midnight on Sunday on Adonara island in East Nusa Tenggara province.
Rescuers recovered 38 bodies and at least five people were injured, said Lenny Ola, who heads the local disaster agency.
Flash flooding killed at least 33 people elsewhere and at least 70 are missing, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency.
Meanwhile, 27 deaths have been reported in East Timor.
Relief efforts have been hampered by power outages, as well as blocked roads covered in thick mud.
