The Andhra Pradesh government decided on Monday to extend the curfew till May end. A decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said that curfew should be imposed for at least four weeks so as to contain the spread of coronavirus. The CM directed the officials to take necessary steps to prevent an increase in number of coronavirus cases in the rural areas of the state.
Starting Wednesday May 5, the government imposed a half day curfew across the state to curb the spread of coronavirus. The shops and business establishments, kept open from 6am to 12 noon with Section 144 in force. Except for emergency services, all shops and commercial establishments are not allowed to operate after 12 noon.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Allahabad High Court order which directed the Uttar Pradesh government to impose lockdown in the state's five cities till April 26 in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Appearing for the UP government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated the blanket lockdown in UP's five cities Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur will create immense administrative difficulties. He said the state government has issued several directions and taken adequate precautions on the issue.

Emphasising that the livelihood of the poor needs to be saved, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has refused to impose the lockdown ordered by the Allahabad High Court in five cities of the state.
The Allahabad High Court on Monday
ordered a lockdown in five cities of UP till April 26, considering the prevailing Covid-19 situation. The lockdown was ordered in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur and Gorakhpur.
As per the Allahabad High Court order, the lockdown was to come into effect from Monday night and till April 26.

Lucknow: Owing to rising COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government Friday announced a lockdown on Sunday in all districts. Also, those who will be caught without masks will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. Repeat offenders will have to pay a penalty of 10 times the fine amount.
"There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday. Only sanitation, sanitisation and emergency services will operate during this period. Necessary awareness works should also be done in this regard," said an official statement quoting UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
