The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is gearing up for a new round of bidding for the construction of the 120-billion-baht western extension of the MRT Orange Line.
MRTA governor Pakapong Sirikantaramas told the media on Friday that the agency will hold an online market sounding on Monday and the input will be used in the drafting of a request for proposal (RFP).
An MRTA committee had held a meeting to discuss fresh bidding for the Orange Line and investment issues for the Purple and Yellow Lines.
The MRTA last month scrapped the bidding process for the construction of the western extension, linking the Thailand Cultural Centre in Huai Khwang district to the Bang Khun Non area in Thon Buri, after it became mired in legal wrangles in the Administrative Court.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) on Tuesday signed a contract to jointly invest in designing, constructing and finding an electric rail operation system to provide maintenance services to the Pink Line's 4-billion-baht Si Rat-Muang Thong Thani extension route.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who presided over Tuesday's contract-signing ceremony, said this specific extension route of the Pink Line was approved by the government as part of its efforts to upgrade the mass rail transport system in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces.
"Electric rail transport will not only help boost the economy but it will also improve the quality of life for commuters while being environmentally-friendly,'' said Mr Anutin.

The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC) has asked the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases to be brought against the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) over the cancelled bidding for the western extension of the MRT Orange Line.
A source said on Tuesday that a lawyer representing BTSC had filed the petition against the MRTA and other parties on Monday for allegedly violating Sections 157 and 165 of the Criminal Code and Section 172 of the constitution's 2018 organic law on corruption suppression and prevention.
The BTSC claims the accused parties unlawfully changed the bidding criteria after a number of contenders, including itself, had already submitted their bids.

Delay in rail line trials likely

The launch of the Pink and Yellow electric train lines is likely to be postponed to the end of the year, as the Covid-19 outbreak has disrupted the delivery of construction equipment, says the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA).
