Funding has been secured by Louth CC to commence work on some of Dunleer's notorious footpaths. Provisional marking and scanning for utilities has taken place on 50m of footpath at St Brigid's Terrace on the Dundalk Road and 150m of pathway from Drumgoole's house to the fire station in the town. The municipal district's monthly meeting was told that this Friday is the deadline for tenders for work at Balmers Bog, although the start of work on the four month project is dependent on Level 5 Covid restrictions being lifted. Dunleer's footpaths have become so bad that wheelchair users are now unable to access certain parts of the town. Major concerns have been expressed for months about stretches at St Brigid's Terrace, the Barn Road and the Ardee Road. The Ardee Road has now gotten so bad, it is proving unbearable for many local residents as it's a trip hazard. Cathaoirleach of Louth CC, Dolores Minogue says action must be taken. One local woman has written to her stating she is almost unable to use the Ardee Road. She brings her mother out in her wheelchair, but it is now too dangerous.
