WPI inflation eases to 12.41% in Aug from 13.93% in July

The month over month change in WPI index for the month of August, 2022 stood at -0.46 per cent as compared to July, 2022, the Commerce Ministry said.
“Inflation in July, 2022 is primarily contributed by rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, basic metals, electricity, chemicals & chemical products, food products etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” the ministry said.
The wholesale price index (WPI) had spiked to 15.18 per cent during the month of June. The WPI in July 2021 was at 11.57 per cent.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry added that the high rate of inflation in June is “primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, basic metals, chemicals & chemical products, food products etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year”.
