PETALING JAYA: There are no legal provisions for prisoners to serve their jail sentences under house arrest, says an NGO advocating for reforms.
Officials said that after the recovery of multiple cell phones during routine searches, a thorough sweep of the prison was conducted recently over a span of three weeks. Sources said that during this search, “dozens” of phones and SIM cards were recovered either hidden on prison premises or from the inmates.
Ali was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison. His jail term was to start running from date he was arrested, 2016.
