Akeredolu and Parable of Onirese

I am personally scandalised by the news coming from Ondo State about Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the state of his health. This piece, I must confess,

Eme Awa: A Voice from the Grave!

By Olusegun Adeniyi
The bombshell memoir of the late Eme Awa, a professor of political science and former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), was completed 25 years ago in December 1995 and six years before his death in March 2000. Mrs. Selome Awa (Mummy Awa as we call her) published it posthumously. I was availed a copy ahead of its presentation. It tells a compelling story of the political journey of Nigeria before and after independence, the mutual ethnic suspicions that ultimately led to the civil war, the mismanagement of our diversity by the military, the incursion of tribalism into the academic community and of course the ‘transition’ to civil rule programme of General Ibrahim Babangida in which Awa played a critical role. Some may remember his controversial removal as NEC Chairman as well as the drama of how his name was displaced at the last minute by J.S. Cookey as chair of the 1986 Political Bureau.

Analysing Nigeria's name as a foundation of its troubles

A review of U.S. Elvis’ book, The Hidden and Ignored Truth about Nigeria, by Sam Nwaoko.
That Nigeria needs a lot of things, chief among which are cleansing, regeneration, resetting and rebirth cannot be stressed enough. For many years, this conviction has been the force behind the perennial call by Ujeh Samuel Elvis that the name, ‘Nigeria’ must be changed for the country to begin a true journey of growth and development. And, as a cleric (a former full time pastor with The Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG) and Bible teacher, he hinged his conviction on the charge in the Book of Isaiah 30:18, which commands thus: “Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever.”

A cleric, Pastor Gabriel Adegboye has advocated that a centre be instituted where political leaders must pass through before assuming leadership positions.
According to Adegboye, such a centre will enable leaders to be trained and have a fine-tuned blueprint for their administration.
For too long, he decried that several leaders come into government with bogus ideas that are of no benefit to the populace they govern.
Pointing to the mandatory nature of trainings in several professions, he stressed the need for politicians to, in like manner, receive political training for the offices they aspire for.
