Former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Saturday, said he consulted with Niger Delta leaders, including the late oil mogul and philanthropist, High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, after his nomination as the running mate to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua in the 2007 presidential race.
Jonathan, who spoke in the Lulu-kiri, Abonnema Local Government Area of Rivers State, during Lulu-Briggs’s funeral, described the deceased as a father, urging his heir, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, to walk in the shoes of his father whom he said came from humble beginnings and became successful.
Though the late billionaire’s widow, Seinye, was noticeably absent, dignitaries from all walks of life from within and outside the country graced the ceremony.

Bunny Wailer: Last of the Wailers

If you attend church or been to a dance party or a night club, there is a very good chance you have rocked to the rhythm of reggae. In that case you owe some obeisance to Bunny Wailer, who died early this month, just eight days before his 74th birthday. He was one of the reggae trio, The Wailers, that took reggae to its international stature. He was the only one of the trio that lived to witness UNESCO proclaim reggae a World Cultural Heritage in November 2018.
The other members of the trio, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, were much more famous. Yet, in many ways, Bunny Wailer was the soul of The Wailers, and he remained a musical icon in his native Jamaica and the global reggae fandom until his death. His mellow tenor was the distinctive voice of the early Wailers. In fact, the man who changed his name from Neville Livingston to Bunny Wailer when they formed the group was the smoothest vocalist of the three.

How
has the COVID-19 pandemic affected the Nigerian banking sector?
The COVID-19 pandemic came with lots of uncertainties regarding the duration, the extent of impact and how it will pan out in terms of impact on the overall economy and global supply chains and then the financial markets. There was quite significant uncertainty at the beginning but as various countries took steps quickly first on the health front through various lockdowns and protocols, the financial industry saw the need to take major steps to stimulate the economy to withstand the impact of such lockdowns and shocks to the system.

The Federal Government, on Saturday, asked telecommunication operators to put on hold, their impending suspension of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data services over a N42bn debt owed by banks.
This was contained in a statement signed by Femi Adeluyi, technical Assistant on Information Technology to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria said telcos will disconnect Financial Service Providers from USSD services from March 15 until they pay their over N42bn debt.
ALTON had explained that the service withdrawal become necessary due to the lack of agreement on a payment structure with the banks that did not involve the end-user being asked to pay.

Banditry: Ex-EFCC chair seeks safety for women, children

Banditry: Ex-EFCC chair seeks safety for women, children
FRIDAY OLOKOR

A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Farida Waziri, has decried the spate of insecurity in the country which she said had left women and children as scapegoats and victims of criminality.
According to Waziri, Nigeria must be made safe for women and children to grow and flourish, while opportunities must be provided for them to fulfil their dreams without any hindrance.
She wondered why insurgents, bandits and kidnappers in Nigeria continued to feast on the most vulnerable and innocent in the society as their soft targets.
