Nigerian Woman Jailed For One Year In UAE Over Twitter Post Could Pay Up To $137,000 Fine —Diaspora Commission

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said that Ms Dunchi Lar, a Nigerian woman jailed in the United Arab Emirates over the Twitter post on how Nigerians were Illegally detained at Dubai Airport, committed a cybercrime punishable with a one-year jail term. The commission said there could be an option of a fine of between approximately $69,000 and $137,000 or both jail term and fine under the UAE laws. This was contained in a statement released by the Head of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun on Sunday.

The head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has stated that the conclusion of the investigation into the murder of Itunu Babalola, a Nigerian woman who was "wrongfully detained" in Cote D'Ivoire will shock many. The commission revealed that the last person who visited Babalola before her death was a Nigerian. SaharaReporters had reported in 2021 that the Nigerian government, through NIDCOM and the Nigerian Mission in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire said its investigation into the case of Itunu showed that she was innocent and was framed.

Nigerian Government Asks Italy To Provide Job For Widow Of Its Citizen Beaten To Death By Italian

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has urged the Italian government to provide a job for the widow of Ogorchukwu Alika, a Nigerian beaten to death by an Italian in the European country.  Dabiri-Erewa also noted that the deceased was the breadwinner of his family, adding that the Italian police have arrested the alleged killer of Ogorchukwu Alika. Dabiri-Erewa made this known in a statement by NiDCOM Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Gabriel Odu, on Tuesday.
