COVID-19 cases drop 33 times in March in Kazakhstan

More stats show the third wave of Covid-19 is starting to engulf SA

SA's latest Covid-19 reproduction number is on the up, says the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

Having gone as low as 0.5 at the beginning of February, SA's latest Covid-19 reproduction number is now 1.33.
The latest R numbers for SA and each of its provinces, based on new confirmed infections up to May 29 2021. These are median values, with 95% confidence intervals indicated in brackets.

This means every infected person passes on the virus to 1.33 people, and the rising number is another sign of the third wave of the local epidemic.
The new R number, as of May 27, emerges in a bulletin from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, which is notified of every confirmed case of Covid-19.

ALMATY. KAZINFORM – 285 fresh daily COVID-19 cases have been reported in the region in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 18,840, Kazinform correspondent reports.

Almaty region’s sanitary and epidemiological control department said that the incidence rate of COVID-19 stands at 881.4 per 100 thousand people in the region. The COVID-19 growth rate has dropped from 1.9% to 1.4% over the past two weeks. The region’s R number stands at 1.23 – the fourth highest figure across the regions.
The region has reported 285 COVID-19 cases, including 222 symptomatic and 63 asymptomatic ones, over the past day, with the growth rate of 1.5%.

Kazakh PM calls for stabilizing COVID-19 situation, increasing immunization coverage

NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM – Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin has given a number of instructions to tackle the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country, Kazinform correspondent reports.

Addressing a government session, the Kazakh PM called on the Health Ministry and regional administrations to ensure the preparedness of COVID-19 bed capacity, pointing that the country’s eight areas are in the coronavirus «red zone», hospital bed occupancy stands at 41%, ICU bed occupancy is 27%, and that the R number is 1.15%.
Noting that the task at hand is to stabilize the sanitary epidemiological situation and increase the number of vaccinated people, the Head of the Kazakh Cabinet gave a number of instructions, including taking immediate restrictive measures taking into consideration the COVID-19 situation, full provision of medical facilities with pharmaceuticals and medical products, enhancing the sanitary norms and mask wearing in the regions.

On reproduction metric, Covid can be spreading faster in U.P., Jharkhand, and Bihar

Covid-19’s ability to spread is getting attention again. One of the parameters of transmission, referred to as R or the reproduction number, suggests the pandemic might be growing faster in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
After tracking the daily new cases of the last two weeks, the effective reproduction number for Uttar Pradesh is estimated at 2.14, followed by Jharkhand (2.13) and Bihar (2.09).
That means one infected person, on an average, infects more than two people in UP, Jharkhand and the neighbouring Bihar.
