The AFL has strengthened its vilification rule after an off-season dogged by both historic racism allegations and social media abuse of some current players.

Any person who has witnessed an incident can report the abuse
The AFL's Tanya Hosch hopes the changes will make a "significant difference"
Any person in the game who witnesses vilification of any kind can now report it to the AFL. The responsibility previously fell on the shoulders of the victims, some of whom have been reluctant to come forward fearing reprisals.
